WE ARE ALL ON DRUGS
Never getting enough
"Don't take it literally...I'm singing more about the fact [of] how addicted we all are to stimulating ourselves, and over-stimulating ourselves with music, or whatever it is in our lives. [It's] not necessarily about drugs."
-- Rivers Cuomo, Writer of "We Are All On Drugs"

“I CAN DO ANYTHING” is what you tell yourself as a kid. Ever since I was a kid, I knew I am a dreamer. In my point of view, everything has always been, is, and always will be deeper, more meaningful, and more truthful. Changes: these are what makes and breaks a man. These simple to complex things that encompass our everyday living are the very things that can suck us in or pull us out. Everything changes. It’s what you do WHEN this changes occur AND what you’ve done when the changes do not occur yet AND what you’ve done (if possible) to delay them. I’m 20, turning 21 in 19 days, and I find myself lying in my bed, 12:16 A.M., just about to sleep, when suddenly I felt a sudden rush to make a fuss about what’s about to happen to my life: IT WILL CHANGE.
I
know I didn’t do a handful of things that could’ve made me top more or excel
more. Sometimes guilt comes to me, but not to the extent of swallowing me
wholly, when I realized that there were opportunities for me to step up and
make an effort, but rather, I just sat through all of it happening so quickly
that I didn’t even bother to care. I know I can delay this change by sitting my
life away again, and I’m starting to do that day by day, but I just can’t let
myself. It’s the time to step up and fight for what I want to do for the
remaining half or 2/3 of my life.
1. KNOW YOURSELF. – It’s your road,
your footsteps, your time, your effort, your dreams, your dear life hanging on
a thread that is your stupid, easily confused, impeccable mind. Dreams are
realities waiting to happen. But dreams are also changing, and right NOW is the
BEST time to know what you REALLY, REALLY want to do with your life, what you
want to be. I wanted to become a jeepney driver, an engineer, a writer, a
teacher, a pastor, an editor, a director, a famed personality, a scriptwriter,
a call center agent, a graphic artist... It changes more than how much I want
my dreams to change. But now is my one shot to make it right, to pursue what
will be my life. If I make a wrong decision, I will lose days, months, or
years, I’d rather not that to happen. So I’ll just go back to what drives me: I
KNOW I WANT to inspire people. Whether it be 2 or 2 million, I just want to
inspire.
2. KNOW IT IS DIFFICULT. – Ever
since the apple of sin got bitten, competition, misery, and hardships, among
other things, also got its way to this world. It will never be easy, but it
will never be impossible. Be driven by your goal, your competition, your
inspirations, your environment. A lovely lady once told me, “It’s a jungle out
there, be a lion.”
3. ACT ON IT. – Never stop learning.
Never take anything for granted. Never let an intelligent thought leave your
mind without writing it down. Never walk alone. Never give in to fright. Never
let humiliation fool you. Never just sit down on your dream. It can happen if
you act on it, one way or another.
